beautiful poems and all are just like the life I lived in Georgia. And the food is all that I grew up on and learned how to cook from my mother and grandmother. still cook that way to this day. Thanks for writing these and sharing. They are just beautiful and bring back alot of memories for me. Bonnie
Beautiful Blog! Through your writings, you really make a person like me (native Mississippian with mixed feelings about the State) remember and appreciate ALL the good that the State has to offer.
Patricia, after having visited this remarkable site, I certainly intend to buy your book. You are a remarkable lady who has my admiration. Wish there were more people like you who wish to preserve our southern way of life. I was born in 1930 in a cotton mill village. That was during the Depression, but as Dickens wrote, "It was the worst of times; it was the best of times". Wonderful memories. My late husband Hubert J. Howell was born in Itawamba County, MS. You & I are face book friends. I enjoy Bob Franks photography immensely. ~~~My best, Monte (P.S. I taught high school English for 30 years.)
Loved your book and love Mississippi. Your poems remind me time spent at my Mississippi grandmother's house just a little north of where you were raised. Your work resonates! Thank you for such a lovely gift
What a wonderful blessing to find your web site and Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia on this special day, Father's Day!
Your poems have brought many Crocodile Tears todaybecause like you Mississippi will always be "home' no matter where I roam. We were truly blessed to have this Mississippi country form our core belief in family and love of our background! I've lived all over the U S, ,but have always said with pride that I was from Mississippi. Those that criticize are unfortunately uninformed of the truth about our state
I also agree with you about rhyming poems. There is a rhythm that fascinates and thrills me. Academia can somtime try to be so 'current' that the enjoyment is overlooked!
You look too young to be a grandmother, but look forward to having grandchildren because they will cling to your Mississippi stories and poems!
Again, thank you for a lovely 2 hours of reflections on "our beloved state"!
Nancy Hellams (aka Ohme) is a very good friend of mine and has called me several times to read me your poems so we could laugh together. I ordered both of them today and can't wait to get them!
